The field of art conservation is truly interdisciplinary – a wonderful combination of the arts, humanities, and natural sciences – offering each of you an opportunity to examine, document, analyze, stabilize, and care for treasured cultural heritage while preserving the beauty, history, and often untold stories of their owners, makers, and communities. As you pursue your work and study at the University of Delaware you will discover the capacity of the art conservation profession to strengthen cultural understanding and to foster inclusion, well-being, and joy.
Following graduation, our art conservation undergraduates will be able to:
- Apply the ethics of working with tangible and intangible aspects of cultural heritage
- Advocate for the preservation of cultural heritage collaboratively, creatively, and effectively
- Evaluate and document in writing, using precise and appropriate terminology, the overall condition and preventive needs of cultural materials
- Demonstrate a basic and scientifically supported understanding of the materials, manufacture, and deterioration of cultural heritage as well as proper health and safety principles and practices
- Apply fundamental craft and manual skills in the conservation treatment of cultural materials
