Oil Paint

​hi!  I have two oil paintings with scuffed/torn corners.  One is obvious on the actual piece and I would like to paint over it, but am worried that the scuff has gone to the canvas layer and oil may rot the area of the corner.  The other is on the sides of the canvas, but I was hoping to paint all around the sides as well.  Those have definitely gone past the gesso layer and exposed the raw canvas.   The one that is on the image was done in February 2020, and the other in May, although I recently started painting on that one again before I noticed the tears.  

any advice how to safely patch these areas in a timely manner so I can paint over them sooner than later would be very helpful  thank you!

This does not seem to be a huge issue. Most likely, you could just paint oil paint over these areas without problems. The risk of acidic rotting of the canvas is probably not a major concern in this small of an area.

However, best practice would suggest that you could also just apply a small daub of a resin, not soluble in mineral spirits, like B-72 or PVA to the area.

Probably easier and better, you could very likely rub a bit of acrylic dispersion medium or even acrylic dispersion paint (unthinned) over the spot (wiping away any medium/paint that covers intact oil paint). This would likely isolate the area. I know that we always say to not apply acrylic dispersions over oil but a tiny dot like that should not be an issue, especially since it would be adhered to raw fabric. Just make sure to wipe away any acrylic from the undamaged paint and retain it only in the scuff.
