Conservation Technicians - Bynon Art Services (Nashville, TN) | Conservation Technicians - Bynon Art Services (Nashville, TN) | 2021-06-23T04:00:00Z | 2021-07-12T04:00:00Z | <p><strong>Conservation Technicians Bynon Art Services (Nashville, TN) </strong></p><p>Hourly rate – $25 </p><p>Hours 30-40 per week </p><p>Start date – July 13, 2021 </p><p>6 month renewable up to 36 months </p><p><strong>Description </strong></p><p>Bynon Art Services is assisting the Tennessee State Museum to move to a new storage facility by leading the conservation program. The entire project is expected to last an estimated 36 months to move an estimated 160,000 artifacts to a purpose-built storage facility. This project will include several different phases including artifact assessment, conservation treatments and relocation. Artifacts are dated to 15,000 years ago with prehistoric people and continue through to present day. The collection is diverse and includes social history, decorative arts, archaeological, popular culture and fine art in a broad range of materials. We are looking for applicants with a broad interest in art and cultural studies along with an interest in a diversity of different materials. This project will be excellent experience for preprogram Conservation Technicians who want hands on work with varied material types in one of the nations largest museums. The museum’s Civil War holdings of uniforms, battle flags and weapons are among the finest in the nation. </p><p><strong>Position Summary </strong></p><p>The conservation technician is required to support the conservation team with following duties: </p><p>• Assist with gathering artifacts from storage and on exhibit. </p><p>• Input location and treatment data into a museum database. </p><p>• Complete remedial conservation treatments under supervision </p><p>• Assist external specialist conservators to assess artifacts that require treatment. </p><p>• Carry out condition surveys under supervision. </p><p>• Perform safe artifact handling, moving, and packing </p><p><strong>Qualifications and Skills </strong></p><p>• Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, Art History, Anthropology, or field related to art conservation. </p><p>• Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to handle artifacts with care. </p><p>• Experience in conservation and technical roles to support the conservation team. </p><p>• Commitment to teamwork along with a willingness to take direction and execute tasks until completion. </p><p>• Excellent manual dexterity and the capacity to perform delicate, demanding tasks with a high level of productivity. </p><p><strong>To apply </strong></p><p>Please send a cover letter, resume and contact information for two job-related references to: </p><p>Mark Bynon, Owner/Principal </p><p>Bynon Art Services, LLC </p><p>mark@bynonartservices.com<br></p> | | | |
