Barbara Lemmen

Barbara Lemmen received her BA from Williams College in 1985 (with majors in Art History and Chemistry) and her MS in Conservation (with a major in photographs, and minors in paper and objects) from the University of Delaware in 1991. Ms. Lemmen’s training included internships in photograph conservation treatment and research at the National Archives of Canada, the Image Permanence Institute, and the José Orraca Studio. From 1993 to 2001, she operated a private practice in New Hampshire before joining the staff of the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts in Philadelphia, where she is now a senior conservator. Ms. Lemmen has led numerous workshops in the treatment and preservation of photographs for diverse audiences. Since 2002, she has been supervising second and third year majors in photograph conservation in the WUDPAC program. Some areas of special interest to her are the treatment of negatives, disaster recovery of photographs, and non-traditional conservation adhesives. She is co-author of a book chapter on coatings on Polaroid prints. A Professional Associate of AIC, Barbara has been an active member of the Photographic Materials Group having served as Program Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and Chair of the Education and Training Committee.
