Library & Archive Materials Laboratory

During the first year of the Master’s program library and archive materials is a two-week block focused on the preservation challenges of large collections of books, manuscripts, parchment, architectural drawings, pamphlets, and ephemera. An emphasis is placed on materials collected primarily for their informational value and the need to balance preservation and access. Students are taught storage strategies for large collections of materials and the need for preservation prioritization. Master’s level students cannot major in Library and Archive Materials however paper and photograph majors may collaborate with staff from this lab on research and treatment projects.

Lois Olcott Price is head of the Library and Archive Materials lab and teaches the Master’s level block in this discipline.
