Arts and Humanities Institute deadline approaching

UD's College of Arts and Sciences is now accepting applications for the 2011 Arts and Humanities Summer Institute (AHSI). This rigorous four-week program prepares students for graduate-level coursework in the humanities while also giving them opportunities to conduct archival and object-based research. This year's Institute will feature programs in art conservation and english. Applications are due by February 14.

Krill and Fiske scholarships deadline approaching

Joyce Hill Stoner to receive College Art Association/ Heritage Preservation award

Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation professor and UD Preservation Studies Doctoral Program director Dr. Joyce Hill Stoner will be the 2011 recipient of the CAA/ Heritage Preservation Award for Distinction in Scholarship and Conservation. The annual award was initiated in 1990 to recognize an outstanding contribution by persons who, individually or jointly, have enhanced understanding of art through the application of knowledge and experience in conservation, art history, and art.

Houdini is trapped, and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts has asked Grace Owen and Renée Wolcott to rescue him. In this blog entry, Renée discusses the treatment of a scrapbook of magic posters during her internship at the Barbara Goldsmith Conservation Laboratory at The New York Public Library.

Kress Foundation funding received for Old Master reconstructions

reconstructions in association with the
spring 2011 undergraduate course entitled
“Reconstructing the Old Masters.”

New Smithsonian videos feature WUDPAC alumna

The East Asian Painting Conservation Studio at the Smithsonian Institution's Freer Sackler Gallery of Art recently posted the first installation in what will be a series of educational media on the conservation of Asian paintings. WUDPAC alumna Courtney Shimoda filmed and edited the videos, which demonstrate safe handling procedures for Chinese and Japanese scrolls.
