Student Intern for the Delaware Division of the Arts-Mezzanine Gallery

Delaware Division of the Art’s Mezzanine Gallery presents solo exhibitions of work by Delaware artists including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, folk, and media arts. This exhibition opportunity is available to Delaware’s emerging and established visual artists who have won Individual Artist Fellowships or been chosen from the Division’s Visual lmages Registry. The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Carvel State Office Building at 9th and French Streets in downtown Wilmington.

Job Responsibilities:

•Organize and assist artists with installation of monthly art exhibitions
•Assist in writing of press releases and other promotional material for upcoming exhibitions
•Serve as a liaison with the artist to coordinate exhibition details including the delivery, hanging, and removal of artwork
•Prepare and maintain all elements of the exhibition area
•Coordinate the lighting of exhibitions with the Carvel Building’s Facilities staff
•Attend Gallery openings on the First Friday of the month to coincide with the Wilmington Art Loop
•Perform administrative functions, including but not limited to: distributing contracts and information packets to artists, providing insurance information on artwork to insurance carrier, preparing price lists, updating the Visual Images Registry and Gallery mailing list

Candidate must be outgoing and professional, well-organized, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience creating/handling artwork is preferred.

This part-time position with flexible hours is a great opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a professional career in the visual arts. We anticipate this position taking approximately 15-20 day and evening hours per month with additional hours during the periods of exhibition change. The ideal candidate will be available to work the spring and summer semesters.

A small stipend is available through a grant awarded to the educational institution.
