Job Description: Paper Conservation Private Practice seeks part time conservation technician to replace a permanent employee on maternity leave mid September – end of December.
Paper Conservation Technician Duties: The job will involve a variety of duties, including surface cleaning of works of art on paper and maps, mending with Japanese tissue and wheat starch paste, filling of losses, backing removal with scalpels and spatulas, removal of pressure-sensitive and water-soluble adhesive tapes, hinging, and generally assisting the head conservator with treatment processes.
Required Skills/Qualifications: Applicants should have a college degree in a relevant subject, plus experience with hands-on treatment of art on paper or library materials, specifically mending and surface cleaning of fragile papers, removal of pressure-sensitive and water-soluble adhesive tapes, hinging, backing removal, and filling of losses. This position requires good manual dexterity, close attention to detail, perfectionism, and a sunny disposition. We are looking for someone who is observant, sensitive, patient, who communicates easily and has the desire to be a valued team member.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
