Third-year Internship
The third or internship year is spent under the supervision and mentoring of conservation professionals at one or more host institutions or independent laboratories, where the student functions as a cooperative and productive assistant staff member. In the fall of the second year, each student meets with his or her advisory committee to determine possible internship sites. The students travel to these sites to interview in the winter; placements are made by about April 1. The students fulfill an eleven-month full-time internship between September and August, sending their advisroy committees monthly or bi-monthly reports. The major supervisors or program director conduct a telephoned or in-person inspection in late winter or spring. The on-site internship supervisors file semi-annual reports.
Recent internships have been hosted by the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, Arizona State Museum, Nation Gallery of Art, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, Hirshhorn Museum, Worcester Art Museum, and the National Museums of Scotland.
